The power of paint!

Before

Nothing like this has ever been blogged about before....atleast by me:-)
Lets talk about paint....it's relatively inexpensive AND it's easy. It's the greatest diy handy tool in the world, aside from caulk, my personal favorite. A fresh coat of paint can make a world of difference to a home's appearance. Especially when you're using paint in a property that is being rehabbed for rental or flip. It's a great way to improve the appearance of a property without going over budget.  A property that we rehabbed last year had kitchen cabinets that were in great shape. We could have just left them as is, but wanted to make the house really stand out in the rental market to attract a higher price rent.

After

I'll add that this was not all this property needed, it was a hot mess when we got it. In the after pics you can see that the counter-top, floor and lighting was updated as well. This house needed an almost full gut and rehab, but the great thing is that while we may have been hemorrhaging a bit of money with other issues, we were able to save a good 5k + by painting the existing cabinets instead of purchasing new. That's why I freaking love paint! There, I said it, I LOVE PAINT!
and lamp, I love lamp too (stupid movie reference anyone?)

Make sure to use a primer, better yet, when you purchase your paint (we love Sherwin Williams ), let them know what you are painting and they can steer you in the right direction. On our cabinets we used a shellac primer. Not using the right primer can leave you in a world of hurt with peeling paint. Here's a good step by step on how to get pro results from This Old House. Add new hardware and you're as good as new!
